Pan Oston happy with Vlint's choice of airsocks

On business park De Zegge VII in Raalte, Overijssel, Pan Oston's impressive premises appeared early this year: 13,680 sq m of which 2,700 sq m of office space with showroom, spread over two floors.

Pan Oston has been developing, manufacturing and installing cash registers, counters, express checkouts, self-scanning solutions, interactive self-service terminals and kiosk systems for 50 years. The construction of Pan Oston's new premises started in July last year. Vlint supplied and installed a total of thirty airsocks (textile air distribution hoses) in the offices, canteen and showroom.

The challenge

“In the old premises, we were dealing with outdated air-conditioning systems and air vents that no longer worked optimally," explains René Noordman, Production Manager of Pan Oston. "That had to change in the new building." Pan Oston's management opted for a fresh, clean and transparent look and high-quality finish for the new building. The measures for a comfortable indoor climate had to fit in with the architect's sleek design. A clear assignment for the construction partners!

The solution

Pan Oston engaged Willemsen Installatie to install the climate systems. This company then asked Vlint for advice. Both companies had worked together on nice projects before. Hugo Willemsen of Willemsen Installatie: "I am always looking for partners who complement us. Vlint is one such partner."

Vlint is an expert in designing and manufacturing airsocks and advises on the optimal supply and distribution of clean air in office buildings. To ensure that the new building would have a comfortable and healthy working environment and that it met Pan Oston's design and finishing requirements, there were regular consultations. Henri van der Scheer, Product Manager Air Distribution at Vlint, was involved in the project from the beginning: "It was decided to install airsocks with their own duct units in each department. Each unit can be controlled separately. So each room can be ventilated, heated or cooled separately.

Airsocks have the advantage that the freshly supplied air mixes with the air in the room via the permeability of the material and the applied perforation. This creates a homogeneous distribution of air. So you don't feel the air 'flowing out', as is the case with a traditional duct system." In addition, the airsocks also fit very nicely into modern interiors. For instance, they are all hung parallel, centred in the room where possible, and hang tightly, without wrinkles. For a perfect finish, the aluminium mounting rails of the airsocks were powder coated in the same colour as the airsocks themselves in Pan Oston's paint shop: black in the canteen and showroom and white in the office areas. This makes the airsocks blend in with the space. You have to look closely to see them hanging!

Assembly

Vlint supplied the airsocks (including the rectangular connections to the duct units) and did the assembly with experienced Vlint fitters, thus relieving the installer. Even after delivery, Willemsen Installatie and Vlint kept a finger on the pulse when it came to a fresh and healthy working climate. For example, it was decided to readjust the temperature/air distribution in the Service and Finance departments. René Noordman: "The temperature in these departments was still not entirely optimal. These rooms are somewhat larger and a relatively large number of people work there." After on-site research, Vlint suggested enlarging the perforations in the airsocks to create a better inducing effect, here the cooler air entering the air distribution hose was mixed with the ambient air.

The result

It has now been six months since Pan Oston moved to its new premises on Hertzstraat in Raalte. We like the new location! Everyone is satisfied with the result and happy with the cooperation: "The cooperation with the building partners functioned like a well-oiled machine. In terms of indoor climate and comfort, we really notice a clear difference from our old location. We are glad we chose airsocks from Vlint. It is a beautiful system and ensures a healthy and pleasant working environment." Installer Hugo Willemsen is also positive about working with Vlint: "We don't always have time to get involved in all the details. The parties we engage for a project must therefore deliver quality, be a good partner. This is also why we enjoy working with Vlint. Pan Oston had very specific requirements for the new building in terms of air distribution combined with design, and Vlint advised and helped us well with that."
