No contamination at Plasma Industries thanks to BFM fittings
Preventing blood contamination
Plasma Industries Belgium fractionates 1.2 million litres of human blood into plasma every year. This is a process in which various substances are extracted from blood. It is important that fractionation takes place in a clean environment to avoid blood contamination.
In the factory, a filter-hopper was connected to a tank via a traditional cuff. Here, the ring that attached the cuff to the underside was not properly secured, so it sometimes fell into the tank, increasing the risk of product contamination. This also caused product leakage.
The solution
On Vlint's advice, Plasma Industries installed the Seeflex 040E BFM fitting between the filter-hopper and the top of the tank. This BFM fitting is flexible, contains no loose parts and is dust-tight. This improves plant hygiene and minimises the risk of product contamination. Moreover, the BFM fitting is easier to replace than the traditional cuff, ensuring shorter production downtime.
When the fitting is not in use, the tank is sealed with a BFM cap to further prevent the risk of outside contamination.
