Air is essential for everyone. The air handling unit (AHU) acts as the lungs of a building. It is therefore important to regularly check the condition of the AHU. This ensures clean air everywhere and contributes to good health. This is important because people spend 80% to 90% of the day indoors. When we think of air pollution, we often think of outdoor air, but polluted indoor air also has significant health impacts. Without measures, offices become breeding grounds for bacteria, fungi, viruses, and mites, resulting in decreased productivity and illness-related absences. This can be addressed: investing in indoor air quality pays off quickly. A healthy indoor climate starts with the lungs of a building. This means maintenance of air handling units, good (particulate) filters, clean ducts, and airsocks. Together, we ensure optimal conditions in buildings and offices.

The Condition of the Air Handling Unit

Careful maintenance extends the lifespan of the AHU. Maintenance of the AHU is important but can sometimes be neglected. As a result, the condition of the AHU can sometimes be worse than expected. This is a shame because the hygienic and mechanical condition of an AHU greatly affects the purification process. If an AHU does not work properly, for example due to corrosion or dust buildup, it negatively impacts the wellbeing and health of people. The AHU incurs unnecessary energy costs, and air supply can eventually cease altogether. Additionally, the lifespan of the AHU is shortened, and moving parts of the unit wear out faster if they are not in good condition. This leads to higher maintenance costs than planned.
