A filter change of a whopping 4620 filters!

The Claus C power plant in Maasbracht houses a CCGT unit with three gas turbine generators to generate electricity. A complex process involving gases, steam, heating and cooling. Here it is extremely important that the turbines are equipped with the right build-up of quality filters.

RWE engaged Vlint for a filter change at the Claus power plant in Maasbracht, where three gas turbines were fitted with no less than 1,540 new filters per turbine!

New filter configuration with great benefits

To ensure that all moisture and water are captured on the first filter stage, Vlint advises RWE to use a reverse Drof Safe® bag filter. For a perfect connection of these filters, specially designed profiles were installed in collaboration with Kivit Steel Construction. The new filter configuration of the Coalescer filter in combination with a high-quality particulate bag filter and compact filter, ensures such clean air that the 'online or offline' cleaning of the turbine blades is no longer necessary. As a result, gas turbine downtime can be avoided and the efficiency drop is almost zero.

The challenge of this particular filter change

For this project, Vlint's specialized mechanics, removed all the filters for one of the turbines. They were then moved off the roof using a tower crane and the new filters were lifted to the roof. A challenging and meticulous job involving careful and expert work with a tower crane next to high voltage. Meanwhile, the filter change of the first turbine has been successfully completed and delivered.
